Full program description

Welcome to Nursing Fundamentals! In this course, we will learn tools required to perform a comprehensive physical assessment and review of a patient’s history. Central to our focus is inspection, auscultation, palpation and percussion techniques. Though emphasis is placed on common health problems, health promotion and maintenance strategies are highlighted for all age groups, and students will gain insight into the management of chronic illnesses as well as basic outpatient treatments.

The course will introduce students to the nursing process, patient intakes and vital signs, and different types of patient care. We will also cover a knowledge base for procedures and protocols in a variety of settings. Further, we will focus on experiential learning in these settings to provide an opportunity for the student to promote, maintain and/or restore an optimum level of wellness in adult patients and families in collaboration with other members of the health team.
